Typhoon garbage FAQ

Is there garbage collection during a typhoon?

When a county declares a work/school suspension during a typhoon warning, garbage trucks usually stop collecting; a make-up collection is normally scheduled after the warning is lifted. Exact times follow each county's EPB. The Garbage Truck app pushes your area's changes and arrival reminders in real time.

When is the typhoon work/school suspension announced?

Each county government decides based on conditions: a full-day or morning suspension is usually announced the evening before, between 7–10 pm; if conditions worsen and an afternoon/evening suspension is called, it is announced by 10:30 am that day. All are consolidated by Taiwan's DGPA.

What are the criteria for a suspension?

Under Taiwan's regulations: when the storm radius may pass within 4 hours with average winds of Beaufort 7+ or gusts of 10+; or forecast rainfall reaches 350 mm on the plains / 200 mm in the mountains with disaster risk — a suspension may be declared.

When is the make-up collection after a suspension?

Most counties run a make-up collection on the next collection day after the warning is lifted and work/school resumes; some add extra slots. Exact dates follow each county's EPB, and the app notifies you.

How should I handle trash during a typhoon?

While collection is paused, tie bags tightly and keep them indoors or sheltered — don't leave them outside where wind scatters them or blocks drains. Put them out sorted once collection resumes.

What if my home and workplace have different suspension calls?

By the rules, you may stay home if any one of your residence, workplace, or commute route declares a suspension; attendance and pay details follow the Ministry of Labor and your employer. See DGPA for details.
